Donn Fendler, subject of Lost on a Mountain in Maine, visited students in Mrs. Jackson’s and Mrs. Bradstreet’s classrooms this morning.  When Mr. Fendler was 12 years old, in 1939, (82 now!) he got separated from his hiking party and was lost in Baxter State Park for 9 days.  Students listened intently as Mr. Fendler talked about his adventure and told what he had learned from his trying experience.  He passed around the actual jacket he was wearing when he was lost.  He also autographed maps, journals and books for students and answered their many questions.

Picture Day…the kids all come in looking so spiffy!  Two cameras were set up in the gym and everyone had the chance to smile for the camera.  Even Challie, Mrs. Adams’ dog, got in on the action!

The fifth graders recently gathered on our new and greatly improved hot top area to send a BIG thank you to the town of South Berwick. Crews were hard at work during the months of August and September and the finished result is amazing!

As part of the initiative to eat more food that is grown and/or produced within 20 miles of our school, students husked corn from Riverside Farm in North Berwick today at MGWS. Many found that it is HARD to get the husk off of the corn, but everyone agreed that it was a lot of fun! All students ate corn-on-the-cob for lunch later in the day.

Marshwood Great Works School held its annual Team Building Day last Tuesday. Each class rotated through several stations designed to help us build our “team skills” of communication, cooperation, and collaboration.

Here, Mr. Burnell and one of our students took us through some of the dos and don’ts of group games out on the playground. They decided “Rock, Paper, Scissors” is a good way to settle a dispute!

Here classes had to work in teams to toss a ball back and forth between 2 sheets. It’s not as easy as it sounds!

Fun was had by all, and our students are on their way to having a very productive year!
